Itanagar, Oct 1: The three-day training programme on Management of Emergency Operation Centre and Business Continuity Plan aftermath of disaster was inaugurated today at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) here by Secretary (Disaster Management) Dani Salu in presence of Addl Secretary cum Director (DM) Komkar Dulom.
This training programme for District Disaster Management Officers (DDMOs), Dealing Assistants (DAs), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been organized by the Department of Disaster Management, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, in association with resource person from Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and UNICEF.
The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) are both important for disaster management and business continuity after a disaster strikes. 75 participants from all the districts of Arunachal Pradesh are attending the training programme.
In his keynote address, Secretary (DM) Dani Salu said that disaster management systems across countries are updated at regular intervals, and such trainings are helpful in updating knowledge on disaster management.
Acknowledging the help received from ASDMA from time to time, he highlighted that Assam and Arunachal have symbiotic relationship not only in the field of culture but also in the field of disaster management. Any disaster in Assam directly affects the communities in Arunachal Pradesh in terms of road communication, whereas events like heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh affects Assam by flooding. Therefore, better cooperation between the two neighbouring states will be crucial in disaster management, he said.
Earlier, Addl Secretary cum Director (DM) Komkar Dulom welcomed all the guests, DDMOs, DAs, SDRF and briefed the gathering about the significance of the training programme. He informed that this training programme is organized in compliance to the observation from NDMA lead consultant Major General (Retd) Sudhir Bahl during the last mock exercise held in November 2023 where he had emphasized on the importance of organizing training on Management of Emergency Operation Centre and Business Continuity in the State. He requested all the participants to actively participate in the training programme so that they are better prepared for any disaster management in future.
Dr Kripaljyoti Mazumdar, State Programme Officer, Response & Recovery (ASDMA); Mukunda Upadhaya, Sr Consultant (UNICEF); Anand Prokash Kamoo, Programme Specialist, Risk & Resilience (UNICEF), and Nitin Srivastava, Sr Project Manager Velocity are attending as the resource persons.
