WASHINGTON DC, Oct 1: In a moment of pride for the state and Echo of Arunachal in particular, Appu Gapak, Sub-Editor of this daily and convenor of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) Gender Council has landed in Washington DC, the capital of the United States on September 28 to participate in a two-week International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) titled “Democracy as Strength: Showcasing US Elections, Political Process and Public Participation" from September 30 to October 8.
Appu is among the five Indian delegates to attend the single country project to discuss US Elections, Political Process, and Public Participation.
They will travel to key cities, including Philadelphia, PA, and Phoenix, Arizona to gain insights into the American political landscape.
The IVLP aims to deepen participants' understanding of fundamental civic concepts, such as separation of powers, checks and balances, and the division of power within the US federal system.
Throughout the programme, Appu and her colleagues will meet with politicians and community organizers from both major US parties, exploring how political actors navigate this complex system to deliver tangible results for their constituents.
A senior journalist with over 15 years of experience, Appu is keen to examine the media's role in shaping political processes during her time in the US.
The IVLP, funded by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, provides current and emerging international leaders the chance to experience the richness and diversity of American political, economic, social, and cultural life through tailored exchanges that align with their professional interests and the public diplomacy goals of the US government.
Since its inception in 1940, the IVLP has welcomed up to 5,000 emerging leaders from around the globe each year, fostering international dialogue and understanding through impactful exchanges.
