ITANAGAR, Oct 30: A teacher of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) in Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing a minor student. He has been booked under the relevant section of the POCSO Act.
An FIR was registered with Roing Police Station, alleging that the teacher, identified as Chandan Upadhyay hailing from Uttar Pradesh, sexually harassed one of his students.
The accused was arrested on October 17 after he returned from his hometown. He is currently lodged under judicial custody in District Jail, Tezu.
The FIR, lodged by the father of the victim, stated that the accused who teaches Hindi, had sought to speak to the girl on phone on pretext of assisting some school work.
As per the phone record between the teacher and the victim, provided by the complainant, the accused can be heard using some very crude language.
Roing PS officer-in-charge KL Pertin informed that investigation is on to determine whether there are more victims as alleged. “However, so far no one has come forward for any kind of information in this regard,” he added.
