ITANAGAR, Nov 29: As part of 2024 National Adoption Awareness Month celebration, the Department of Women& Child Development, GoAP in collaboration with Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) organized “Adoptive Families and Prospective Adoptive Parents Meet” along with an orientation training on adoption regulations to create awareness on legal adoption.
The event highlighted rehabilitation of older children through Foster Care and Foster Adoption, in accordance with the theme “Foster Care and Foster Care leading to Adoption”.
Gracing the programme, Advisor to Minister WCD, Tsering Lhamu, in her speech, recommended spreading of awareness on Legal Adoption, Foster Care and Foster Adoption in every nook and corner across the State by mentioning the exemplary life of Mother Teresa. She also highlighted the rising rate of crime against children as well as forced child begging in the streets.
Content Manager at CARA, Abhishek Kumar, who was on a two-day visit to the state for promoting Adoption, presented a PPT on Adoption Regulations 2022 with special focus on the procedure of Legal Adoption in the technical session.
He specifically stressed on providing counselling to PAPs and strict following of rules and regulations related to Adoption and demonstrated the selection of children when, if, the PAP (husband/wife) are from different locations or states. He also presented a PPT on CARINGs portal and the ways and procedures for registration of Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs) and Legally Free for Adoption (LFA) children.
Earlier, Secretary (WCD) Mimum Tayeng spoke on the importance of foster child rights and also emphasized to reflect into one’s own life and be a home for homeless children and provide them a better life. She also reflected the importance of foster child adoption. Deputy Director (ICDS)-cum-Nodal Officer, Mission Vatsalya, C Tangjang delivered the keynote address highlighting the activities by WCD Dept to mark the month-long celebration at both State and district level.
Dr Bikash Bage, HoD, Sociology at RGU spoke on the tribal customs and practices on adoption in Arunachal Pradesh. Kamin Danggen from APSLSA shared his insights on the scope of legal adoption in the context of JJ Act 2015.
The programme was also attended by APSCPCR Chairperson Ratan Anya, RK Mossang Memorial Society chairperson Komli Mossang, Nani Maria Society chairperson Desai Linggi, prospective adoptive parents and adoptive parents.
The programme ended with an interactive session with the Specialized Adoption Agencies (SAAs) and Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs), and discussion of different issues related to Adoption.
