State level Football Tournament for Subroto Cup commences; E/Kameng takes opening day’s honour bulldozing Tirap 14-0

ITANAGAR, Jul 18: The State level Football Tournament for Subroto Cup -2019 for under 17 boys (8th edition) and girls (2nd edition) got underway at Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar playground today with Education Minister Taba Tedir launching the tourney.

The opening match, played between defending champion Papum Pare district represented by GHSS, Doimukh and Namsai district represented by GSS, Rangalibeel, ended in a 1-1 draw.

In second match, GHSS, Palin representing Kra- Daadi blanked GHSS, Roing representing Lower Dibang Valley 4-0.

GSS, Motum representing East Siang thrashed GSS, Telluliang representing Lohit 5-0 in the third match.

In match no 4, GHSS, Raga representing Kamle pounded GHSS, Bomdila representing West Kameng 6-0.

GHSS, Boleng representing Siang defeated GHSS, Longding representing Longding 5-0 in the fifth match.

In match no 6, GSS, Pachin representing Capital Complex demolished GHSS, Jairampur representing Changlang 10-0.

GSS, New Seppa representing East Kameng bulldozed GSS, Pine Wood Khonsa representing Tirap 14-0 in the seventh match.

Altogether, 20 districts namely Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Siang, West Siang, East Siang, Papum Pare, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Capital Complex, Anjaw, Changlang, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Lohit, Kamle, Longding, Tirap, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi and West Kameng are taking part in the tournament. Three districts viz Tawang, Upper Subansiri and Anini were unable to participate in the tournament due to weather condition.

Kicking off the tournament, Tedir appealed the teams to focus on sports as career along with academic pursuits, and spoke on job reservation and govt facilities for those who excel in sports.

Cautioning the students about the negative impact of consuming drugs, the Minister asserted that if one concentrates on sports as a career one must refrain from indulging in such illegal activities.

Gania Leij, Director Secondary Education announced that the Department of Education will soon organize a tournament involving different disciplines like kho-kho, archery, taekwondo and weightlifting among others within next three months for under 17 category.

Girls are also performing well in sports along with boys but only excelling in state level is not enough but also one must do well in national level and avail the advantage of job reservation for sports, he advised.
