Itanagar, Feb 11: In line with the Government of India's commitment to ensuring a safer cyberspace for its citizens, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Arunachal Pradesh under Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) today observed the Safer Internet Day 2025 with the theme "Together, for a Better Internet", in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).
The awareness campaign was held at the Civil Secretariat, Itanagar, with the objective of educating officials about cyber threats, cyber hygiene, and best practices for online safety. Secretary (IT), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr Sonal Swaroop graced the event, in the presence of Director (IT&C) and SIO (NIC).
A comprehensive and easy-to-understand presentation was delivered by the NIC and the Dept of Information Technology & Communication (IT&C), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh. The session covered critical cyber threats such as phishing, vishing, malware, digital fraud, and other prevalent cyber scams.
The session emphasized practical strategies to navigate and safeguard oneself in today’s digital landscape, including open house discussions, wherein some of the participants highlighted their real-life experiences.
Similar programs were conducted by NIC District Centres in association with respective district administration, mostly covering student communities from schools and colleges covering more than 800 participants. This initiative reflects the Govt’s ongoing efforts to promote cyber awareness and digital security, ensuring a safer and more secure online experience for all.
Tawang: In an effort to promote safe internet practices, educate users on cyber threats, and encourage responsible use of the internet, Safer Internet Day was celebrated today at the Tawang DC’s office premises here.
Addressing the gathering, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang emphasized the importance of cyber awareness in today’s digital era. He highlighted how the digital revolution has made information easily accessible. He urged parents and children to utilize technology for constructive purposes while being vigilant against cyber frauds, stressing that clicking on inauthentic links and sharing personal information online could lead to severe financial and mental distress.
District SP Dr D W Thongon elaborated on the rising cases of cyber fraud and emphasized the need for collective efforts in spreading cyber awareness, particularly in rural areas. He assured that a dedicated cybercrime cell is actively working to address such issues and encouraged the public to report any suspicious online activities.
District Informatics Officer Pardeep Singh conducted a PowerPoint presentation on cyber threats, cyber hygiene practices, and safe internet usage. He provided valuable insights on how individuals can protect themselves from online fraud and stay informed about cyber security resources.
The event successfully reinforced the message of responsible internet usage and the importance of cyber hygiene. The attendees appreciated the initiative and pledged to spread awareness in their respective communities to ensure a safer digital space for all.
BOMDILA: The Safe Internet Day was also celebrated at Govt College Bomdila by the NIC, West Kameng district unit.
Majority of the participants were college students. The talk on safe internet and all related topics was deliberated by Er PK Thungon, Director (IT) cum DIO, Bomdila. He gave a detailed presentation ranging from basics of the Internet to latest technologies including Quantum Computing and AI.
He asked all the participants not to share anything which may be exploited by the hackers. He asked everyone to keep vigil on the fraudulent links and other fake urls (Uniform Resource Locator) and take precaution while browsing anything on the net.
The participants were asked not to share passwords, pins and other sensitive data to anyone over the phone. Also the participants were given a presentation on cyber hygiene and other precautionary measures to safeguard and be alert of any fraudulent calls.
Yingkiong: Upper Siang district also joined the rest of the world in celebrating ‘Safer Internet Day’ at the DC office here today.
DC Talo Jerang, in his keynote address, emphasised on internet literacy, highlighting the importance of digital skills and knowledge for individuals to function in today’s digital world. Citing the significance of digital awareness among the public, the DC also asked DIO to conduct similar workshops for the general public, businessmen, youths, women groups, etc to raise awareness on safe use of the internet and to remain alert from digital frauds.
To mark the day, DIO Rishi Raj gave a power-point presentation on Safer Internet Day and elucidated on advantages and disadvantages of internet use. He advised the participants to use govt generated email ids for official correspondences and avoid using office Wi-Fi for personal uses particularly for social media from a security point of view.
