Day 12 of VKSA campaign in Tawang’s Nuranang spotlights on Scientific Yak Husbandry Practices

NURANANG (Tawang), Jun 9: As part of the nationwide pre-khariff campaign, the Day 12 of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) was marked with a significant event today at Nuranang (RA-III) under Jang sub-division in Tawang district.

The programme that focused on ‘Scientific Yak Husbandry Practices’ was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tawang in collaboration with the ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak (NRCY), Dirang, and Agriculture and allied departments of Tawang.

The event witnessed the participation of yak herders from nearby villages, officials from various departments, and slew of dignitaries.

Dr Mihir Sarkar, Director NRCY (Dirang) who graced the occasion as chief guest, led a team of scientists and experts from NRCY. ADC Jang Hakraso Kri and officers from KVK Tawang, and Agri and allied departmental representatives also attended.

In his address, the NRCY Director highlighted the vital role of scientific yak husbandry and dairy farming, focusing particularly on clean milk production practices. He further emphasized the need to adopt natural farming techniques to ensure sustainable soil health and to boost crop productivity in the region.

Dr Sarkar also encouraged the farmers to embrace innovation and informed decision-making for long-term agricultural sustainability.

The ADC, in his remarks, stressed the importance of utilizing government schemes effectively to enhance rural livelihoods and ensure holistic development of the farming community.

The interactive session saw active participation from the farmers, who raised pertinent queries regarding livestock practices, which were addressed by the experts present.

As part of the programme, inputs essential for yak farming were distributed among the participating farmers to support their ongoing agricultural activities.

This initiative under the VKSA programme reaffirms the commitment of KVK Tawang and its partner institutions to promote scientific agricultural practices and empower local farmers through knowledge dissemination and capacity building.
