PASIGHAT, Oct 31: Expressing deep anguish over the alleged incident of child molestation and sexual assault at Sanggo Residential School, Mebo, local MLA Oken Tayeng has termed it a “crime against humanity and a wound to our collective soul.”
In a statement issued today, Tayeng said, “I am deeply shocked and heartbroken by the recent incident of child molestation in Mebo. As a father, a community member, and your elected representative, I share the pain and anger that many of you are feeling. What has happened is not just a crime against a child; it is a wound to our collective conscience.”
The MLA informed that he has spoken to the district administration and police authorities, who have assured that the case is being pursued with utmost seriousness and that the accused will face the strictest legal action under relevant laws.
Tayeng appealed to the media, social media users, and the public to respect the privacy and dignity of the victims and their families, emphasizing that protecting the children’s identity is crucial to their healing and justice.
