Itanagar, Nov 15: Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik extended warm greetings to the media fraternity of the State on the eve of National Press Day, reaffirming the collective commitment to safeguarding press freedom, which he described as a cornerstone of a vibrant democracy.
In his message, the Governor highlighted that the press stands as the Fourth Pillar of India’s democratic system and remains a vital contributor to the nation’s vision of Viksit Bharat. He noted that the media informs citizens, nurtures healthy public discourse, and upholds transparency and accountability across institutions and public life. “Today, the media plays a powerful and proactive role across every sphere and its influence reaches every corner of society,” he said.
He lauded the media community of Arunachal Pradesh for consistently demonstrating responsibility and integrity while adapting to an evolving information ecosystem. He observed that the shift towards progressive, inclusive, and technologically advanced journalism in the State is both visible and encouraging.
“As an informative, educative, and expressive platform, the media shapes opinions, amplifies diverse voices, and reinforces the foundations of democracy,” the Governor stated. He expressed confidence that the State’s press would continue to meet emerging challenges with courage and professionalism, especially in areas of critical importance such as national unity, social harmony, and the protection of women and children.
As the nation observes National Press Day, the Governor urged media professionals to remain steadfast in their pursuit of truth, fairness, and public service. “Let us work together to build a media ecosystem that inspires trust, empowers citizens, and contributes to the progress of our State and our nation,” he added.
