Tawang, Jun 8: A career counselling and training programme for young and adolescent students on gender equality under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative was held at the Tawang Govt Higher Secondary School auditorium here on Monday.
Organised by the Department of Education in collaboration with the Department of Information and Public Relations, the programme focused on education, gender equality, mental health, career opportunities, legal awareness, environmental protection and financial literacy.
In-charge Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Leta (ADC), attending the event as the chief guest, exhorted students to prioritize education and embrace the values of the three D’s—Dedication, Discipline and Determination—as guiding principles for achieving success and becoming responsible citizens.
District Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang, the guest of honour, sensitized students on the harmful effects of drug abuse, elaborating on key provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including awareness on good touch and bad touch.
He also spoke on key aspects of the Motor Vehicles Act, emphasizing road safety, legal driving age, drink-and-drive offences, pedestrian rights and provisions under the new criminal laws.
Other speakers included Assistant Commissioner (Kyidphel) Sange Norbu, who highlighted environmental conservation; clinical psychologist Tenzin Dolma and psychologist Lobsang Youton, who spoke on mental health and drug addiction; and NABARD District Development Consultant Kritika Kashyab, who discussed financial literacy and skill development.
Lt Col Mini Saxena of 190 Mountain Brigade also briefed students on career opportunities in the Indian Army.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation and aimed to empower students with knowledge and skills essential for personal growth, gender equality and future career development.
