Itanagar, May 30: Retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Rinchin Tashi has assumed the office of the State Election Commissioner here on Tuesday, after being appointed to the post on May 24 last.
The post of State Election Commissioner (SEC) has been lying vacant since August 2022 when Hage Kojeen had demitted office on August 3 last year on completion of his five-year tenure as the SEC.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, in exercise of powers conferred under Article 343K(I) of the Constitution of India and Section 104 of the Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 1997, had on May 24, 2023 appointed Rinchin Tashi as the State Election Commissioner with effect from the date he assumes office for a term of five years or till he attains the age of 65 years whichever is earlier.
Before attaining the age of superannuation in September 2022, Tashi was serving as Secretary to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the departments of Public Health Engineering & Water Supply, DoTCL (Tirap, Changlang and Longding Affairs), and Karmik and Adhyatmik (Chos-Rig) Affairs during 2019-2022.
He had also served as Secretary in the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
Hailing from Domkho village under Kalaktang circle in West Kameng district, Tashi has a vast experience of serving the state in various capacities under the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, spanning for 37 years. (UNI)
