PIOs fined

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: In two separate appeal cases, the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) has, under the provisions of the RTI Act, 2005, imposed a total penalty of Rs 50,000 (Rs 25,000 in each case) on Public Information Officer (PIO) cum PD, DRDA Upper Subansiri, Tanam Kyali, for refusal in furnishing information to an appellant, defying the Commission’s directions. Further, the PIO has been asked to pay the compensation of Rs 10,000 (Rs 5,000 each) to appellant Nikam Dabu for monetary losses incurred in making to and fro journey for obtaining the sought information.

In another case, the APIC has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on PIO-cum-EAC (Seppa) Abu Taba for delaying in furnishing information to appellant Takheng Lamnio. The officer has also been directed to pay a compensation of Rs 5,000 to the appellant toward meeting his monetary losses.

Both the officers have been directed to deposit the penalty amounts in favour of Registrar, APIC through treasury challan for final disposal of the appeals.
