ITANAGAR, Feb 8: The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-organisation of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, paving the way for creation of two new districts - Keyi Panyor and Bichom.
The Keyi Panyor district with its headquarters at Yachuli (Ter Gapin - Sam Sath area) will be created by bifurcating Lower Subansiri district, while the Bichom district with Napangphung being its headquarters will be carved out from East Kameng’s Lada circle, and Nafra, an ADC headquarters in West Kameng district.
With this, the total number of districts in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 27. Earlier, the State Cabinet had on February 5 accorded its approval for the creation of the two districts.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, while moving the Bill for consideration and passing, said that the creation of two new districts was in the interest of better administration and fostering development. This will further ensure good governance & efficient delivery of government services & schemes.
The demand for creation of Bichom district is old one and the district is being created to bring far-flung areas under easy accessibility and acceleration of economic development through various Govt initiatives after discussions with the CBOs, he said, adding that it would benefit communities including Miji, Sajolang, Aka (Koro) and Puroik.
The Chief Minister said that 27 villages from Nafra, Khazalang and Sirilang circles of West Kameng, and 28 villages from East Kameng’s Lada and Bana circles will be merged with Bichom district, while Keyi Panyor district will have administrative circles at Yachuli, Yazali, Kora, Deed, Paramputu and Pistana.
Moreover, the Government had created 67 posts each for the two new districts, consisting of Group A, Group B non-gazetted, Group C, MTS and ALCs posts with the annual financial implication of Rs 3.73 crore each.
Khandu, while informing that the 70-year-long Assam-Arunachal boundary problem has been resolved amicably, sought the support and cooperation from the members and assured to take along the development initiatives in the future.
Cabinet Ministers Mama Natung, Taba Tedir and Tage Taki, and MLAs Goruk Pordung, Dongru Siongju, Jikke Tako, Lombo Tayeng, Tana Hali Tara, Nyato Dukam participated in the discussion and thanked the government for fulfilling the long-felt demand of the people. (UNI)
