ITANAGAR, Jun 2: Four women MLA candidates – all from the ruling BJP – secured cent percent triumph in the April 19 Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh.
While former CM Kalikho Pul’s better half Dasanglu Pul won the polls unopposed from the Hayuliang seat, Nyabi Jini Dirchi, a greenhorn, defeated NPP’s Gokar Basar in Basar constituency by a margin of 1791 votes. 47-year-old Dirchi is the former Zilla Parishad Chairperson of Leparada district.
Two other female lawmakers who retained their seats in the 60-member Assembly are Chakat Aboh from Khonsa (West) and Tsering Lhamu from Lumla.
A second-time MLA Chakat Aboh won against her opponent Yangsen Matey with a margin of 804 votes. Aboh polled 4093 votes against Matey’s 3289.
Aboh (49) was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the first time in the 2019 bye-election, as an independent candidate, which was necessitated following the assassination of her husband and MLA Tirong Aboh by NSCN militants.
Lumla MLA Tsering Lhamu won for the second time in a row defeating Jampa Thirnley Kunkhap of Congress by a margin of 1531 votes. She is the wife of former legislator, late Jambey Tashi.
It may be mentioned that the outgoing Assembly had five female members, including Chakat Aboh, Dasanglu Pul, Tsering Lhamu, Gum Tayeng (Dambuk), and Jummum Ete Deori from Lekang.
