PASIGHAT, Aug 29: Urban Development Minister Balo Raja inaugurated “much awaited” two infrastructure projects – multi-storeyed PMC (Pasighat Municipal Council) and Town Planner’s office buildings at Gumin Nagar today, in presence of local MLA Tapi Darang, former MLA Kaling Moyong, Divisional Commissioner Vivek Pandey, CE (UD & Housing) Taring Darang, DC Tayi Taggu, SP Sachin Kr Singhal, Director Town Planning Likha Suraj, Smart City CEO Manjuli Komut, PMC Chief Councillor Okiam Moyong Borang and others.
Later attending a public meeting held at the PMC conference hall, the Minister said: “In an innovative initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched Smart City Mission (SCM) in 2015 to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local development and better technology as a means to create smart outcomes for citizens.
Fortunately, Pasighat was chosen under SCM and under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the present government is making Pasighat into a thriving, sustainable economic hub. It was intended to develop a replicable model that will serve as a beacon for other cities/townships of Arunachal Pradesh,” he added.
The Minister further opined that effective and efficient planning and execution made Pasighat a top location for smart, connected and eco-friendly communities centered on education, research, entrepreneurship and tourism. Its redevelopment model will offer a wealth of opportunities for investments, creation of new jobs and revenue generation through developed infrastructure with a strategic focus on transit-oriented development.
Raja urged the officers and leaders to work with missionary zeal and to maintain team spirit, while appealing to the senior members of society to guide the young generation to protect and preserve the assets once created by the government.
Earlier this morning, the Minister visited the newly constructed VKV, old PMC building, etc.
The MLA, in his brief speech, gave many suggestions for betterment of the township and stressed on immediate posting of MEO and creation of new posts for official and sanitary staff meant for PMC.
Highlighting the additional development needs of the fast growing Smart City, he asked the executing agencies to complete all kinds of construction works at the earliest possible so that the market building(s) can be allotted to the local business community.
Further, Darang urged the Minister to revisit Pasighat and appealed for grant of more developmental projects for Pasighat in future.
Among others, Divisional Commissioner Vivek Pandey, DC-cum-MEO Tayi Taggu and PMC Chief Councilor Okiam Moyong Borang also spoke on the occasion. (DIPRO)
