NEW DELHI, Jan 10: As part of State-wise distribution of Net Proceeds of Union Taxes and Duties for January 2025, the Union Government has released tax devolution of Rs 1,73,030 crore to State Governments today, as against the devolution of Rs 89,086 crore in December 2024.
Out of the total tax devolution, Arunachal Pradesh received its share of Rs 3040.14 crore. Uttar Pradesh stood at top with the distribution of Rs 31039.84 crore as proceeds of taxes and duties, followed by Bihar at Rs 17403.36 crore while Madhya Pradesh was placed third with an amount of Rs 13582.86 crore.
Among the Northeastern States, Assam took the top spot with a tax transfer of Rs 5412.38 by the Centre. Arunachal Pradesh came second, as Meghalaya was ranked third with an amount of Rs 1327.13 crore.
A higher amount is being devolved this month to enable states to accelerate capital spending and finance their development and welfare-related expenditures.
In the meantime, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister has acknowledged his gratitude to PM Modi-led government at the Centre for distribution of the State’s share pertaining to net proceeds of Union taxes and duties.
Khandu, in his social media post, said: “Gratitude to Hon PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for releasing Rs 3040.14 crore as a tax devolution installment for Arunachal Pradesh. This crucial support will strengthen the state’s fiscal capacity, enabling the timely execution of key infrastructure projects, strengthening welfare schemes for marginalized communities and driving sustainable economic growth in the region.”
The CM further said: “This assistance reaffirms the Centre’s commitment to the holistic development of Arunachal and the whole of North East.”
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has extended gratitude to the central government for releasing Rs 3040.14 cr as tax devolution for the hilly State.
Taking to ‘X’, Mein, who is also the Minister In-Charge of Finance, said: “Grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for allocating Rs 3040.14 crore as a tax devolution installment for Arunachal Pradesh. This significant financial boost will empower the state to advance critical infrastructure projects, uplift marginalized communities through robust welfare initiatives, and promote long-term economic development.”
He added saying: “Such support reflects the Centre’s steadfast commitment to ensuring holistic growth and prosperity for Arunachal Pradesh and the North Eastern region.” (With inputs from PIB)
