PASIGHAT, May 9: As part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), a key initiative under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), East Siang district successfully conducted one-day master volunteers training cum awareness programme at the DC’s conference hall here today.
The event comprised 50 master volunteers from the NCC and 10 Anganwadi workers (AWWs) from the ICDS Project, Pasighat.
M Gao, DD ICDS cum Nodal Officer NMBA, highlighted in detail objectives and significance of the NMBA scheme through a PPT presentation. She underscored severe social and personal consequences of drug abuse and encouraged the master volunteers to take an active role in spreading awareness and supporting individuals undergoing recovery from addiction.
Dr Oson Borang, District Demand Drugs Reduction nodal officer and one of the resource persons, delivered an insightful lecture on various types of drugs, their legitimate medical uses, and the harmful effects of misuse—including the abuse of narcotic medicines. He also elaborated on the symptoms and consequences of drug dependency. Dr Borang urged volunteers to educate community members about the value of a drug-free lifestyle and advised them to assist addicted individuals by helping them access medical care.
Advocate Nyame Dabi from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) addressed the gathering on the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He informed participants about the legal consequences of the sale and purchase of prohibited drugs, and highlighted how such substances are commonly trafficked by users and peddlers.
East Siang DDSE Oduk Tabing also spoke on the occasion, sharing his views and encouraging continued community engagement against drug abuse. (DIPRO)
