AAPYO claims Govt trying to legalise cannabis cultivation

ITANAGAR, May 9: The All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) has claimed that the State Government has been trying to legalise cannabis cultivation in the state.

In its letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the Organization objected to the purported move saying that the government is trying to frame policies in favour of cannabis legalization in the state.

AAPYO alleged that the government did not seek public consent regarding the matter and that there is no clear policy on drug control in the state.

It demanded an immediate halt to the proposed move. It also sought public disclosure of any document, schemes or meetings related to cannabis legalization.

Seeking state-wide public consultations on the matter involving all stakeholders, the youth body demanded that the government come up with a strong commitment to strengthen anti-drug education and rehabilitation programmes.

The AAPYO threatened to launch a democratic movement if the demands placed by them were not met.
