MLA Chombay stresses on soil health & minimizing use of ‘synthetic’ pesticides

ITANAGAR, Jun 9: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Kameng in collaboration with ICAR-NRC on Yak (Dirang), Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, and Veterinary, and ICAR-CITH conducted the Krishi Viksit Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) campaign at two venues- Community Hall, Kalaktang and Community Hall, Brokpalangchen village by the two dedicated teams.

The event witnessed the presence of Kalaktang MLA Tseten Chombay, HoDS from Agri and allied depts, PRI members, Yuva Morcha, public leaders and a large gathering of farmers. Altogether, 574 farmers from Kalaktang, Komalangchen, Samphung, Chingi, Dengzi, Waizer, Brokpalangchen and Warrangpam villages attended the programme.

In his keynote address, the MLA spoke on modern scientific intervention in a sustainable manner and thanked the team of experts from various institutes and departments for arranging such programme in his constituency. He further stressed on soil health and minimizing the use of synthetic compounded pesticides and fertilizers which create hindrances to the environment and human health as well.

ADC Kalaktang Mindo Loyi lauded the pre-kharif campaign to bridge the gap between the Scientist and farmers and emphasized on transfer of technology from lab to land and urged the farmers to reap maximum benefit through this programme.

Dr Tasso Tabin, Sr Scientist & Head, KVK, West Kameng, highlighted the ongoing campaign focusing on uplifting the economic condition of the farmers through sustainable farming practices, increasing farmer awareness and access to modern agricultural practices.

Dr Mansukh Singh Jatana, STO, ICAR-NRCY, Dirang encouraged the farmers on Integrated Farming System involving animals as a key component for bulky organic manures - a step towards organic farming approach.

The programme concluded with the distribution of inputs to the farmers provided by ICAR-NRC on Yak.

Similarly, team-II conducted the VKSA campaign at Brokpalangchen village. The event witnessed the presence of Tashi Wangchu (ZPM Nargum East), Pem Khandu Namsa (president Kisan Morcha, Kalaktang unit), Gaon Burah and PRI members and a mass gathering of farmers.

During the afternoon session, a farmers-scientist interaction was held and the distribution of Soil Health cards and inputs to the farmers was provided by ICAR-NRC on Yak.
