ITANAGAR, Jun 9: Local MLA and Urban Affairs Minister’s Advisor Techi Kaso has urged citizens to come together to protect Gyekar Sinyi (Ganga Lake) and the Itanagar Biological Park, two of the Capital Complex’s most important tourist and heritage sites.
Speaking at the inauguration of the office of the Biological Park and Gyekar Sinyi Protection and Development Society (BPGSPDS) near Ganga Lake, Kaso highlighted the significance of these sites as cultural landmarks and educational and recreational spaces.
He commended the newly reconstituted BPGSPDS team led by president Teli Duli Camdir for their initiative in preserving the lake and park. Kaso emphasized that the lake, with its mythical associations and ecological significance, must be safeguarded from encroachments and natural disasters.
Referring to past encroachment incidents, the MLA assured that he would take up the matter of boundary fencing for both the lake and zoo with the Forest Minister and the Chief Minister. He also called for the construction of a protective wall toward Batt village to safeguard the lake during natural calamities.
Itanagar ZPM Taro Tagia, Deputy Chief Wildlife Warden Hiba Tagik, and Curator Rayo Flago also spoke at the event, discussing protection measures, beautification plans, and strategies to boost tourism and local revenue.
