Itanagar, Jul 5: Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik encouraged the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU) to focus on strengthening grassroots-level cooperatives and promoting self-reliance among rural communities, in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a vibrant and empowered cooperative sector.
Governor Parnaik further emphasized the need for the cooperative movement to evolve into a people-centric initiative driven by collective ownership and shared benefit.
The Governor was interacting with the APSCU members, who led by Chairman Nabam Tahi Nekil called on him at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday. The meeting focused on the challenges, opportunities, and future roadmap of the cooperative movement in the state.
Highlighting the importance of expanding market access for the State’s agricultural and horticultural produce, the Governor stressed the need to explore wider markets beyond Arunachal Pradesh, especially for perishable items. He suggested the establishment of more warehouses, cold storage facilities, and the effective use of the Hollongi and Tezu airports as export gateways to enhance farmers’ income and boost trade.
The Governor listened patiently to the challenges faced by cooperative societies across various districts and assured full support to the Union. He also committed to taking up relevant issues with the State Government to facilitate appropriate action.
During the session, Nabam Tahi Nekil presented the Governor with a detailed report on the recently concluded 27th District Cooperative Union tour, which outlined field-level observations, ongoing initiatives, and areas requiring policy and administrative interventions.
The Governor lauded the efforts of APSCU and expressed hope that with continued cooperation and policy support, the cooperative sector would become a cornerstone of inclusive socio-economic development in Arunachal Pradesh.
