Itanagar, Jul 9: In a tragic incident, former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar passed away early this morning in a suspected wild elephant attack between the Namsang and Deomali area in Tirap district.
He was 65 and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
Born on April 15, 1960, in Namsang village to Late Wangmei Rajkumar, former acting Chief of Namsang village, Kapchen Rajkumar served as the Member of Legislative Assembly from the erstwhile Khonsa North Assembly Constituency during 1985–1990.
He completed his early education at Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottamnagar, Deomali, and later at Govt Higher Secondary School, Khonsa. He also undertook a commercial pilot training course at Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi.
A veteran political figure, late Rajkumar was widely respected in the region for his dedication to public service and leadership.
According to family sources, his last rites will be performed tomorrow at his native village, Namsang.
Meanwhile, Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar, who reportedly died in a suspected wild elephant attack in Tirap district.
The Governor described Rajkumar as a dedicated social activist and a passionate young legislator whose commitment to the welfare of the people of Tirap will always be remembered with respect and gratitude. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.
Mourning the death, Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated that Rajkumar’s service and contribution to Tirap's development will remain his lasting legacy.
The Chief Minister informed that necessary instructions have been issued to process ex-gratia assistance for the bereaved family. He extended his prayers and sympathies to the family, wishing them strength during this difficult time.
In the meantime, Minister for Environment and Forests, Wangki Lowang, along with Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Deomali, Badonlum Tawsik, paid their respects to Late Rajkumar and extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The DC also laid a wreath on behalf of the Chief Minister.
