Attempt at fostering a drug-free lifestyle through awareness campaigns

LIKABALI, Jul 31: Persisting with the 100 days awareness campaign on drug menace under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) in Lower Siang district by the Women & Child Development department in collaboration with the District Administration launched on June 26, a formal drug awareness campaign was organized at the premises of the Govt Sec School, Lipu (Likabali) today.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among students and teachers about the adverse effects of substance abuse and to foster a drug-free lifestyle through the medium of education, community participation and outreach activities.

On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner cum Mentor Officer Janes Mary Tayeng administered the NMBA pledge to the gathering. She appealed to teachers and students to avoid drugs and addictions at any cost, and make the society drug free.

Terming the human body as a devout temple, the officer advised the students to keep it tidy and holy throughout their life by snubbing substance abuse like drugs, tobacco and alcohol.

Earlier, the Child Development & Project Officer cum Nodal Officer, NMBA (Lower Siang district), Jikom Doye highlighted the purpose and scope of the campaign and appealed to the students, the target groups, to help in shaping a drug free and healthy nation.

Resource persons of the campaign were Dr Gobuk Doke (District Surveillance Officer), Tagam Zirdo (Legal Probation Officer), District Child Protection Unit, Mankai Wangjen, Sub Inspector APP, and Tage Puning, caretaker, Sober Foundation, a locally based rehabilitation centre. (DIPRO)
