Sagalee, Jul 31: Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav on Thursday inaugurated a newly renovated smart classroom at Government Upper Primary School (GUPS), Kheel, under a holistic rural development initiative by Citizen Foundation, a Ranchi-based NGO operating in Sagalee since 2023, with support from HDFC Bank’s Parivartan programme.
The smart classroom was formally handed over to the School Management Committee by Johny Kandula, Project Manager, Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP), Sagalee. The project aims to enhance digital education in rural schools and promote community-driven development.
In her address, DC Yadav lauded the Citizen Foundation’s efforts and called for stronger community engagement in utilizing government and CSR initiatives effectively. She proposed a “Teacher of the Month” award to encourage teaching excellence and emphasized the importance of teacher accountability and regularity.
ADC Sagalee Higio Yame urged students to remain drug-free and requested additional teaching staff for early learning centres. DDSE TT Tara stressed training for effective smart classroom usage and appealed to parents to support local government schools.
Citizen Foundation, currently active in 15 Panchayats, is also working on solar energy systems, health centre renovations, and livelihood support for SHGs. SMC Chairman Tok Tubin submitted a memorandum requesting an assembly shed and teachers’ quarters, citing accommodation issues.
As part of her visit, the DC also reviewed facilities at Govt Secondary Schools in Toru and Nimte, Toru Engineering College, Sarka Happa Girls’ Residential School, and Govt Higher Secondary School, Sagalee, directing all departments to expedite ongoing works to ensure readiness for the next academic session.
