ITANAGAR, Sep 21: The ICAR-KVK Longding, Kanubari organized a training programme on “Proper Cultural Management of Paddy for Higher Production and Productivity in Longding District” involving the farmers of Kamkuh Russa and Hasse Russa villages at the Hasse Russa Community Hall on Saturday, with the participation of 68 farmers.

At the outset, A Kirankumar Singh, Chief Technical Officer (Agronomy) highlighted different cultural management practices to be followed during the course of crop growing period starting from nursery raising to harvesting for getting the maximum production from the crop.

During the programme, Singh interacted with the farmers to know about the practice they follow as they have been practising for production of paddy in their fields conventionally. After knowing about their practices, he rectified the wrong methods or practices which the farmers followed till today which will lead to the reduction of crop yield. He emphasized the right techniques and methods to be followed for the management of paddy in the field for getting higher yield irrespective of the varieties they are growing.

Dr. Amit Kumar, SMS (Land & Water Management Engg), also highlighted the importance of land management for making the field suitable for growing paddy for getting higher production and increasing the productivity of the crop.

He also suggested to manage the water level properly according to the requirement of the crop plant for their growth and development.

Further, Singh drew the attention of the farmers regarding the management of water in paddy field that if water is kept throughout the period of growth of paddy the growth will not be healthy as proper aeration will not be performed by the plants so that tillering will be affected which will lead to reduction in production. He also requested the desi cow rearing farmers to follow natural farming practices for producing the healthy and chemical free foodgrains for healthy generations to come in Longding district.
