Itanagar, Sep 23: Following the rollout of next-generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday launched the week-long GST Bachat Utsav at Akashdeep Market here.
The initiative, being observed across the state from September 22 to 28, seeks to ensure that GST benefits are passed on to consumers while promoting the spirit of Swadeshi.
Addressing the gathering, Mein urged shopkeepers to transfer GST savings to buyers and called on consumers to support local products. “Let us celebrate the festive season with savings, pride and growth,” he said, adding that the campaign carries the slogan “Garv se kaho, yeh Swadeshi hai.”
Present on the occasion were Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, State BJP President Kaling Moyong, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Mayor Tamme Phassang and other dignitaries.
Later, in a press conference held at the BJP office, the Deputy Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a more consumer-friendly and self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh.
On Tuesday, Mein visited the G-Extension Market in Naharlagun, where he interacted with traders and shoppers with a similar message. He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, State BJP President Kaling Moyong, MLAs Techi Kaso, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Tojir Kadu and Toko Tatung, IMC Mayor Tamme Phassang, corporators and party karyakartas.
Sharing glimpses from the programme on X, Mein wrote: “Let’s celebrate the festivals with savings, pride, and collective growth!”
Meanwhile, Home Minister Mama Natung also took part in the campaign. As part of the ongoing Utsav, he visited Zero Point Market in Itanagar along with MLA and Advisor Mutchu Mithi and party workers.
Natung said the initiative, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is paving the way for simpler taxation, reduced burden on citizens, and encouragement for local businesses.
“This reflects our commitment towards ease of living, vibrant local economies, and a self-reliant Bharat,” he added.
