Tirap pays tribute to ‘Voice of North East’ in befitting way

KHONSA, Sep 23: Tirap district paid tribute to Zubeen Garg, the “Voice of North East”, in a befitting way here today.

It’s worth mentioning here that Assam bade a tearful farewell to the iconic singer with full state honours.

Organized under the aegis of Tirap Artistes Forum (TAF), a mass candle lighting in loving memory of Zubeen Garg was carried out at the Khonsa Taxi stand near the Bazar in which people from all walks of life assembled.

On the occasion, popular singers from TAF sang several Zubeen numbers including ‘Pakhi Pakhi Mili’, ‘Ashing Ayang’ and many more.

Earlier, the program started with a welcome speech from TAF Chairman Jewang Sumnyan, which was followed by the gathering observing two minutes silence.

Sontung Lowang Bangsia, Wiwan Ramra, Gawang Sumpa, and Sanwang Hosai also spoke on the life of Zubeen Garg.

In a condolence note, the TAF said that the Tirap Artiste Forum is deeply saddened on the sudden and tragic demise of our beloved star singer Zubeen Garg.

He was not just a singer but also a musical ambassador and the voice of North East with a golden heart, it said.

Further, the TAF said: “He had occupied a place in our hearts, as probably very few have in our generation. His singing was a melodious expression of unspoken, inarticulate feelings of hundreds of people, thus becoming the heartthrob of millions and a musical maestro.”

“Now that he is no more with us, it has created a deep void and irreparable loss within the musical fraternity which will take time to fill in,” it added. (DIPRO)
