NAHARLAGUN, Sep 23: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), under the direction of the National Commission for Women (NCW), has launched a four-day interactive session on Women Empowerment, Safe Motherhood, and Family Wellbeing, Health & Hygiene from September 23 to 26. The programme is being organised with the theme “Women Entrepreneurship, Motherhood and Health, Leadership and Justice, Guidance and Honour” in celebration of Navratri.
APSCW Chairperson Yalem Taga Burang said the sessions are aimed at uplifting the quality of life of women in the state by spreading awareness of rights, privileges, and welfare measures. “Our motto is to ensure the wellbeing of women across society—be it in cities, towns, or remote villages. We want the last woman in the farthest village to know her rights and entitlements,” she stated.
She urged all sections of society to support underprivileged women, working women, and widows in accessing various central and state government schemes. “Several initiatives have been launched for women’s progress, but they will only create impact if women come forward to avail the benefits,” she added.
Highlighting the significance of ongoing Navratri festivities, Burang explained that each day of the festival is dedicated to different goddesses, symbolising purity, courage, creativity, nurturing, justice, equality, and success. “In the spirit of these values, our four-day programme has been designed to inspire and empower women of the state,” she noted.
On the opening day, two women entrepreneurs—Tage Kanya of CK Bliss and Techi Anna Tok of Poma Bamboo & Cane Processing—shared their experiences as resource persons. They motivated aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly Self-Help Group (SHG) members, to explore opportunities in different fields and take advantage of government schemes to build sustainable ventures.
The programme saw participation from SHG members across the Capital Complex and Papum Pare district. APSCW Vice Chairperson Tsering Dolma, Members, and the Member Secretary also addressed the gathering, assuring continued guidance and support from the Commission in the journey of women’s empowerment.
