Changlang, Sep 28: The All Changlang District Students’ Union (ACDSU) has strongly opposed the recent demand by the Chakma and Hajong communities for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category in Changlang district.
In a press statement, the ACDSU termed the demand as “unethical, unjustified, and unacceptable,” warning that it poses a threat to the constitutional safeguards, rights, and identity of Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous tribal population.
The Union emphasized that the benefits and protections guaranteed under the Constitution are reserved solely for the state’s indigenous people and cannot be extended to non-indigenous groups.
The students’ body cautioned political parties, organisations, and individuals against supporting or encouraging what it termed “misplaced demands” for political or personal gains. It reaffirmed its commitment to resist any policy or move that undermines the rights and interests of the indigenous tribes.
The ACDSU also urged the State Government and authorities concerned to remain firm in upholding constitutional provisions, while appealing to citizens to stay united in defending the indigenous identity, culture, and political rights of Arunachal Pradesh.
