Popular science talk ‘What Makes an Aircraft Fly?’ held at Bamboosa Library

Tezu, Oct 5: As part of the Air Force Day celebrations and the 4th Talk for Youth Development Series, the Bamboosa Library, Tezu, in collaboration with the Forum of Library Activists, Medo, organized an engaging popular science talk titled “What Makes an Aircraft Fly?” at the library premises.

The session was conducted by Er Yogesh Kumar Mishra, Manager, Air Traffic Control, Tezu Airport, who explained the fascinating science behind flight and the functioning of aircraft and airports.

“What is the motto of the Indian Air Force? It is Nabhah Sparsam Deeptam — Touch the Sky with Glory. It should motivate you too to excel in whatever you do,” said Er Mishra addressing a gathering of students, youth, and parents.

Using an informative science film, he illustrated how aircraft achieve flight and elaborated on the crucial role of Air Traffic Controllers in ensuring safe and efficient air operations. “You are far safer in an aircraft than on the road, thanks to the minute-to-minute vigilance maintained by air traffic controllers,” he noted.

As part of the event, three documentary films on the Indian Air Force were screened, offering the audience an inspiring glimpse into the IAF’s glorious legacy and valour. The films highlighted the life of Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee, the first Indian Chief of Air Staff, a 2012 documentary on 80 Years of the Indian Air Force, and a feature on significant IAF aircraft, including the recently retired MiG-21.

Dr Nomita Lungchang, Block Technology Manager, Namsai, who graced the occasion, appreciated the Bamboosa Library’s dynamic range of youth-oriented activities and recalled her association with the Lathao Youth Library.

The event was coordinated by Jeenamsi Ngadong, joint secretary of the Forum of Library Activists.
