Major boost to Agri dev: Anjaw chosen as Aspirational Agricultural Dist under PMDDKY

Itanagar, Oct 11: In a major boost to Arunachal Pradesh’s agricultural development, Anjaw district has been selected as one of the 100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts under the newly launched Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched three key national agricultural initiatives — Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), Dalhan Mission (Pulse Mission), and National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) — from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi, today.

Under PMDDKY, 100 districts across India have been identified based on parameters such as low agricultural productivity, low cropping intensity, and low credit disbursement. These districts will receive focused support through the convergence of various Central sector schemes implemented by 11 departments under Agriculture and Allied Ministries.

With its selection under this national initiative, Anjaw district will benefit from integrated development interventions aimed at enhancing productivity, improving farmers’ incomes, and strengthening institutional support systems.

The launch event was virtually attended in Itanagar by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Members of the State Cabinet, the Member of Parliament, and the State Chief Secretary. Also in attendance were MLAs, progressive farmers, agrientrepreneurs, and officials from Agriculture and allied departments.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu emphasized the importance of convergence among various schemes to ensure effective implementation and tangible outcomes for farmers. He also noted the increasing participation of young, educated entrepreneurs in agriculture, describing it as a positive trend shaping the sector’s future.

The Chief Secretary reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to effectively implement these flagship missions in close coordination with the Central Government, ensuring measurable progress in agricultural productivity, sustainability, and farmer welfare.

The launch marks a new milestone in strengthening the State’s agricultural landscape, particularly in frontier districts like Anjaw, through a focused, inclusive, and innovation-driven approach.
