Itanagar, Oct 12: In a remarkable display of unity and adventure, a joint civil-military trek to Athupopu in Arunachal Pradesh was flagged off on Sunday from Anini Military Garrison in Dibang Valley district.
The 20-day expedition spans the breathtaking and challenging terrain of Arunachal Pradesh, symbolising the spirit of collective faith and civil-military integration in the forward areas.
Athupopu, located at an altitude of 3,500 metres near the Indo-China border, holds deep spiritual significance for the Idu Mishmi tribe, who revere it as a sacred site — a mythical gateway for departed souls on their journey to eternity. The trek thus represents not only physical endurance but also the celebration of the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
The joint expedition, comprising Indian Army personnel and local civilians, embodies the ethos of “Soldiers as Citizens in Uniform”, walking shoulder to shoulder to strengthen mutual trust, respect, and understanding.
The initiative underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering harmony, cultural preservation, and nation-building in the remote border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. This collaborative endeavour stands as a testament to the enduring bond between the Army and the people of Dibang Valley, reaffirming the shared spirit of unity and national pride.
