Indian Army flags off ‘Shaurya Motorcycle Rally’ to honour the heroes of 1962 war

ITANAGAR, Oct 14: In a solemn tribute to the valour and sacrifice of the bravehearts who fought in the 1962 Indo-China War, the Indian Army today flagged off the “Shaurya Motorcycle Rally” from Likabali Military Station in Lower Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

The joint rally, an initiative of the Army, aims to commemorate the indomitable spirit, courage, and dedication of the soldiers who defended the nation’s frontiers under the most challenging conditions.

Traversing through the rugged terrain and remote valleys of Arunachal Pradesh, the rally will retrace the historic routes taken during the 1962 war. Covering a distance of about 900 km, the event features 20 riders from the Indian Army and ITBP, along with 12 civilian riders from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

As part of its social outreach, the rally will also promote the “No Drugs & No School Dropouts” campaign — a flagship initiative of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh — while engaging with local communities along the route.

The riders will conduct a series of outreach and motivational programmes at Basar, Borarupak, Menga, Sher-e-Thapa Memorial, Taksing, Daporijo, Ziro, and Neelam Tebi War Memorial, including interactions with students, felicitation of community leaders, and awareness drives on unity and nation-building in border areas, with active support from local administrations.

Described as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Subansiri Valley, the Shaurya Motorcycle Rally not only celebrates the legacy of India’s war heroes but also showcases the untapped natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh.

The event stands as a symbol of the Army’s enduring commitment to preserve the memory of its heroes while strengthening the bond between the armed forces and the citizens they serve.
