Itanagar, Oct 15: The Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) on Wednesday organized an interactive session with members of the media fraternity to deliberate on the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978—its intent, provisions, and the need for accurate public understanding.
The session aimed to promote media collaboration in dispelling misconceptions and misrepresentations surrounding the Act, and to foster a more informed public understanding of its inclusive nature.
Prominent speakers including IFCSAP president Dr Emi Rumi, former IFCSAP president Er Katung Wahge, former Advisor to the Chief Minister Tai Tagak, and Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board Chairman Hawa Bagang addressed questions from media representatives and clarified various aspects of the legislation.
In his address, Dr Rumi emphasized the vital role of media in shaping public opinion and narratives, urging journalists to help disseminate factual information about the APFRA, 1978. He reiterated that the Act is not directed against any religion, but seeks to prevent religious exploitation and ensure freedom of conscience and harmony among all communities.
He informed that IFCSAP will organize a peaceful rally on October 18 to express the indigenous people’s resentment over the delay in framing rules for the APFRA, 1978, despite repeated assurances from the government.
Altogether, 34 representatives from various media houses participated in the session, engaging in an open and constructive discussion on the importance of the Act in safeguarding social harmony and protecting the indigenous faith traditions of Arunachal Pradesh.
