Itanagar, Oct 16: Additional Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Jitendra Prasad, called on Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik at Raj Bhavan here on Thursday. The meeting focused on enhancing border connectivity, ensuring high standards of road construction, and addressing the strategic infrastructure needs of the frontier state.
During the discussion, the Governor underscored the critical role of robust road networks in strengthening national security, noting that well-maintained strategic routes are essential for the rapid mobilization of armed forces and for keeping key corridors open throughout the year. He stressed that long-term defence infrastructure must be built with a focus on durability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Emphasizing the broader impact of road development, the Governor highlighted that quality roads in border regions are equally vital for socio-economic growth. Improved connectivity, he said, enables better access to healthcare, education, and markets, helping integrate remote border communities with the national mainstream. He also pointed out that reliable infrastructure is indispensable during natural disasters, ensuring timely relief operations and continuity of essential services.
Drawing from his extensive field experiences, the Governor advised the BRO to adopt international standards in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and tunnels in Arunachal Pradesh, considering the region’s challenging terrains and climatic conditions. He urged the organization to make greater use of advanced technologies and skilled manpower to ensure durability, efficiency, and timely completion of projects
The Governor further emphasized strict adherence to rules and cautioned the BRO to be vigilant on compensation-related claims. He advised that any unusual or suspicious activity should be promptly reported to the concerned Deputy Commissioners and brought to the notice of the State administration to prevent irregularities.
Commending the BRO’s welfare initiatives, the Governor appreciated its humanitarian outreach, particularly the recent establishment of a Play & Learning Room for children of casual labourers engaged in road construction at Tawang. He lauded this effort as a reflection of the organization’s commitment to welfare beyond infrastructure development.
Assuring the Governor of BRO’s continued dedication, Jitendra Prasad reaffirmed the organization’s resolve to deliver high-quality infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh, serving both the strategic interests of the nation and the developmental aspirations of the people.
