Mein inaugurates traditional Mishmi Hut, hostel at Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre

Itanagar, Oct 16: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday inaugurated the traditional Mishmi Hut and hostel-cum-guest house at the Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre, Jollang, Itanagar, in the presence of community leaders, members of the Mishmi Welfare Society (MWS), and representatives from various tribal organisations.

Congratulating the MWS for its efforts in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Mishmi community, Mein lauded the establishment of the Centre as a meaningful step towards cultural preservation and social welfare. He said the facility would serve as both a cultural hub and a support centre for students, patients, and visitors from remote areas of the State.

“The Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre is a meaningful initiative that reflects the community’s commitment to preserving its traditions while contributing to society,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, expressing appreciation to the local community for donating land to the Mishmi Welfare Society — a gesture he described as “a generous contribution” that made the creation of such infrastructure possible. He noted that the newly inaugurated hostel would greatly benefit students and patients visiting Itanagar for education or medical treatment, particularly those with limited financial means.

Addressing the youth, Mein urged them to remain disciplined, focus on education and competitive exams, and take an active role in the State’s development rather than misusing their potential or opportunities. He encouraged them to engage in economic activities under schemes like the Krishi Yojana and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Yojana, and to strive towards self-reliance instead of relying solely on government employment.

Highlighting the State’s vision for economic growth, the Deputy Chief Minister said that, like other states that have progressed through hydropower, Arunachal Pradesh will achieve growth through tourism and hydropower development.

He stated that the Govt is prioritizing infrastructure development to enhance connectivity and promote tourism across the State, including the development of the Eastern Tourism Circuit, which will showcase the region’s unique cultural and natural heritage. Such initiatives, he noted, will boost local economies and generate employment opportunities for taxi operators, hoteliers, homestay owners, artisans, and entrepreneurs across the region.

Concluding his address, Mein said the Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre would stand as a beacon of cultural pride, learning, and community service. He assured the State Government’s continued support for preserving and promoting Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous heritage.

The event was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Dasanglu Pul, Advisor (Tourism) Mopi Mihu, members of the Mishmi Welfare Society, and other dignitaries.
