TAWANG, Oct 16: A district level monthly NCORD meeting for Tawang district was held at the DC’s office conference hall here today.
Chaired by Addl Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Leta, the meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Dr D W Thongon, Dy SP Tasso Kato, OC (SB) Kesang Norbu, DDSE Hridhar Phuntsok, CDPO Dondup Pema, OC PS Niyi Angu, and representatives from the SSB, State and Central intelligence agencies and Market Welfare Committee, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC suggested that the Agriculture Department procure sprayers and herbicides/weedicides to destroy wild cannabis. He appreciated the joint efforts of the SSB and District Police, with support from villagers, in uprooting wild cannabis plants, and encouraged continued cooperation to achieve the goal of making Tawang a Drug-Free District.
In his speech, the SP informed the house that CCTV cameras have been installed at 13 locations with dedicated uninterrupted power supply and monitoring arrangements in nearby residential areas (with due permission from the property owners), the remaining areas will be covered in the second phase of CCTV installation. He requested the DDSE to coordinate with different agencies to conduct awareness camps in schools — limiting to one camp per month to minimize academic disruptions.
The SP also urged the CDPO Tawang to provide updates on the proposed Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre.
In response, the CDPO informed the house that the rehabilitation centre proposal for Tawang has been dropped.
Meanwhile, Dr Thongon has appealed to all citizens to act seriously and responsibly in curbing the flow of synthetic drugs in the district through the MANAS portal, urging the public to be the “eyes and ears” of the Police.
During the meeting, the Dy SP Tasso Kato through a detailed PPT presentation shed light on various anti-drug activities and initiatives being undertaken by the Tawang Police across the district.
During the open house discussion, members shared valuable suggestions and inputs. (DIPRO)
