ITANAGAR, Oct 16: On the occasion of World Food Day 2025, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Anjaw organized a training-cum-input distribution programme, aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing pulses productivity through the adoption of micro-irrigation technologies.
This initiative aligns with the global theme declared by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) — ‘Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future’, marking the 80th anniversary of the FAO.
Dr Debasis Sasmal, Sr Scientist cum Head KVK Anjaw, emphasized that pulses play a pivotal role in nutritional security and soil enrichment, given their nitrogen-fixing ability. He noted that gravity fed micro-irrigation systems enable farmers to achieve higher yields with reduced water and energy use, contributing directly to the national goal of doubling farmers’ income and achieving Zero Hunger (SDG 2).
Ugarsain, SMS (Land and Water Management Engineering), presented live sessions on installing drip and sprinkler systems, integrating fertigation and adopting best practices for pest and disease management in pulses crops.
Khoisnam Naveen, SMS (Agronomy), highlighted best agronomic practices and post-harvest handling for better income and productivity.
Inchen Namchoom (technical officer) motivated local farmers to adopt protected cultivation techniques for enhanced and sustainable vegetable production.
GPC Kheti Meyor appreciated the farmers’ active participation and encouraged them to adopt pulse-based cropping systems.
The event concluded with the distribution of micro-irrigation kits, storage tanks and seed inputs to beneficiary farmers under the ‘Boost Pulses Production’.
