ITANAGAR, Oct 17: The East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) has demanded the suspension of the East Kameng Deputy Commissioner, District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer (DLRSO), and other officials allegedly involved in irregularities related to the Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway project until the ongoing re-verification process is completed.

“EKSWCO has been associated with the project since its survey stage. It was our dream project, but it is disheartening to learn that crores of rupees have reportedly been misused, and irregularities have occurred in the disbursement of compensation amounts,” said EKSWCO general secretary Kasung Cheda, addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club here today.

He informed that re-verification has so far been conducted only for a few kilometres under Packages 4 and 5, where several irregularities have already been detected. “Verification of Packages 1, 2, and 3—from Lada to Bameng—is yet to be done. We believe more discrepancies will come to light once those sections are verified,” he said.

Cheda urged the re-verification team to carry out the process thoroughly to “unearth the truth behind the alleged scam” and ensure that compensation reaches genuine affected families.

The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA), East Kameng district unit, has also echoed similar concerns during a presser at the Press Club here. ANYA’s East Kameng unit president Ramesh Taku claimed that over Rs 100 crore was misused in compensation payments across Packages 1 to 5 of the project.

“As per our findings, more than 200 genuine families were deprived of their rightful compensation,” Taku alleged.
