Shaurya Motorcycle Rally’ honours 1962 war heroes

Itanagar, Oct 18: In a solemn tribute to the valour and supreme sacrifice of the bravehearts who fought in the 1962 Indo-China War, the four-day ‘Shaurya Motorcycle Rally’ culminated on Friday at the under-construction Neelam Tebi War Memorial in Keyi Panyor district. The rally had commenced from Likabali Military Station on Tuesday last.

Traversing through the rugged terrain and remote valleys of Arunachal Pradesh, the rally retraced the historic routes once taken by Indian soldiers during the 1962 war. Covering a distance of nearly 900 km, the rally featured 20 riders, including serving personnel of the Indian Army and ITBP, along with 12 civilian riders from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The expedition passed through key locations such as Basar, Borarupak, Menga, Taksing, Daporijo, and Ziro, symbolizing a journey of remembrance and resilience. Along the route, the participants conducted outreach programmes, interacted with local residents and students, and felicitated village communities, spreading messages of tribal unity, nation-building, and social awareness under the theme “No Drugs & No School Dropouts” — an initiative of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

As a mark of respect, the riders paid floral tributes at the Shere Thapa War Memorial and Neelam Tebi War Memorial, honouring the gallant soldiers who defended the nation’s frontiers under the harshest conditions.

Organizers said the rally was not just a remembrance of history, but also a symbol of the civil-military cooperation that forms the foundation of India’s sovereignty and security.

The riders will next participate in an interaction with the state Governor during the ‘Ziro Honour Run’ scheduled on October 19 (Sunday), an event organized by the Spear Corps of the Indian Army as part of the observance of National Solidarity Day on October 20.
