DNGC’s Chemistry Dept holds national seminar to ‘explore new research ideas’

ITANAGAR, Oct 18: A one day national seminar on ‘Modern Prospective on Crossroads of Chemistry’, organized by the Department of Chemistry, Dera Natung Govt College and sponsored by the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (GoAP), was held at the DNGC premises here today.

The seminar aimed to foster a collaborative environment where the researchers from various institutes can explore new research ideas in different fields of Chemistry that will be very much beneficial to the students.

Speaking at the inaugural function as chief guest, Dr Md Harunar Rashid from Department of Chemistry of Rajiv Gandhi University, in his keynote address, emphasized the role of nanomaterials as adsorbents for the removal of organic or inorganic pollutants from water.

Dr Meera Yadav, HoD Chemistry (NERIST), highlighted the biotechnological potential of ligninolytic enzymes and nanoenzymes in future perspectives in the field of medicine.

Dr N G Singh from the Department of Chemistry (NERIST), in his lecture, discussed the environmental and green chemistry applications of porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and porphyrin incorporated materials for disinfection under light.

Dr Subrata Paul from Dept of Chemistry (Assam University, Silchar), in his speech, highlighted the atmospheric chemistry of hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) as fourth generation refrigerants.

Three technical sessions were conducted and the entire session was an interactive one and the speakers answered several queries raised by the participants.

Earlier, HoD Chemistry (DNGC) Dr B K Mishra, in his welcome speech, highlighted the importance of this seminar. He also encouraged students to engage in such events to broaden their understanding beyond classroom learning and enable them to gain insights into the new perspectives and diverse fields of Chemistry.
