TEZU, Oct 19: “Keep coming to the library. Knowledge is the only thing that increases every time you invest in it,” said Col Roopak Kumar Thakur, Commanding Officer of 9 Rajputs, while addressing readers at the Bamboosa Library here during a prize distribution ceremony organized by the Bamboosa Library and the Forum of Library Activists, Medo, on Saturday.
Emphasizing the value of discipline in life, Col Thakur urged everyone to make reading a daily habit — one so consistent that “it becomes a part of your muscle memory.” He called reading the best investment a child can make, one that enriches not just knowledge but character.
WRD (Tezu) Executive Engineer Sofreng Hakung, who also attended the event, congratulated the volunteers and prize winners, appreciating their service to the community. He fondly recalled his childhood love for Amar Chitra Katha comics that sparked his reading journey.
Akashvani Tezu Assistant Director Anand Miyi presented prizes to winners of the Indian Air Force Day Painting Contest held on October 8. Prizes were also distributed for a quiz competition for college students on “90 Golden Years of Akashvani” and the September written quiz on literacy and books.
Senior volunteer Banika Krita spoke about the Lohit Youth Library Movement and its motto, “If readers can’t go to books, books must go to the readers.” Keselo Tayang, secretary of the Forum of Library Activists, highlighted the Forum’s outreach efforts to promote reading in remote areas.
The event also featured poem recitations by junior volunteers Anushka Kumari, Jetliso Bellai, and Solong Krong, and experience-sharing by young readers Arpita Ram, Ahili Lingi, and Nithimoying Paron on how the Bamboosa Library has enriched their lives.
Jeenamsi Ngadong, in-charge of Bamboosa Library, welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude to all participants for their active involvement in promoting a reading culture. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from senior activist Solina Khambrai.
