Itanagar, Oct 21: The Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) observed the 66th Police Commemoration Day on Tuesday at the Police Training Centre (PTC), Banderdewa, to honour the supreme sacrifice and steadfast dedication of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The Police Commemoration Day, observed annually on October 21 across India, marks the tragic yet heroic incident of 1959, when 10 police personnel were martyred in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs (Aksai Chin), Ladakh. In recognition of their bravery, the Annual Conference of Inspectors General of Police in January 1960 resolved to observe the day each year as Commemoration Day for all police forces in the country.
The solemn ceremony at PTC Banderdewa witnessed the participation of serving and retired police personnel, families of martyrs, and police veterans, who gathered to pay their heartfelt tributes at the Police Memorial.
The event was graced by Home Minister Mama Natung, who paid homage to the martyrs and reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to honouring their legacy.
“The sacrifices of our police personnel will never be forgotten. Today, we stand in solemn tribute to those who gave their last full measure of devotion in service to the nation,” the Minister said.
He added that the courage and dedication of police officers remind us that every time they don the uniform, they face unknown risks in safeguarding lives and ensuring peace.
On this day, he reaffirmed the government’s pledge to support the families of the fallen heroes and uphold the values of duty, integrity, and service that they embodied.
Among those present was Genden Tsomu, who offered prayers and floral tributes to her late husband, CT Thutan Tsering of 4th IRBn, who lost his life in the line of duty.
