Project BRAHMANK joins global campaign for snow leopard conservation

Itanagar, Oct 23: The Headquarters Chief Engineer (Project) Brahmank of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) joined the global campaign #23for23: “23 Minutes for Snow Leopards” on the occasion of International Snow Leopard Day, observed on Thursday (Oct 23). The initiative highlights the organisation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the protection of fragile high-altitude ecosystems in the North Eastern region.

Under the aegis of the Directorate General Border Roads (DGBR) and aligned with the Ministry of Defence, the campaign seeks to promote awareness and community participation in conserving the endangered snow leopard and its mountain habitat.

As part of the campaign, Project BRAHMANK and its allied field units organized a community engagement programme in collaboration with forest officials, local rangers, and village representatives. The interaction focused on promoting coexistence between humans and wildlife, discussing livestock protection, compensation mechanisms, and strategies for preserving fragile mountain habitats.

BRO personnel across various detachments observed the theme “23 Minutes for Snow Leopards” through symbolic activities emphasizing the number 23. These included group walks, yoga sessions, and team runs held in the morning hours, followed by a plantation drive in the evening, during which 23 fruit trees were planted by personnel and their families.

The activities underscored Project BRAHMANK’s enduring commitment to balancing infrastructure development with ecological preservation, echoing the BRO’s ethos of environmental responsibility alongside national service. (PRO Defence)
