Tawang Marathon 3.0 concludes successfully, showcasing spirit of endurance & unity

Itanagar, Oct 24: The third edition of the Tawang Marathon concluded successfully today, reaffirming Tawang’s growing reputation as a hub for endurance sports and adventure tourism. The event, held amidst the breathtaking high-altitude landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh, celebrated the spirit of fitness, determination, and unity through sports.

The marathon was flagged off by Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, and Corps Commander, Gajraj Corps, Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh.

The Tawang Marathon 3.0 drew an overwhelming response, registering over 6,200 runners and witnessing participation from more than 4,300 athletes representing various parts of the country. The youngest participant was just 9 years old, while the oldest was 77, showcasing the event’s universal appeal and inclusive spirit.

The winners (full marathon – 42 km): Male category: Sikandar Chindhu Tadakhe – 2 hrs 49 mins 12 secs (Bib No. 42009), Ganga Hang Subba, and Kh Romajit Singh; female category: Sarswati Rai – 3 hrs 42 mins 06 secs (Bib No. 43014), Shivani Chaurasia, and Meena Kumari Subba.

Half marathon (21 km): Male category: Tsetan Namgyal – 1 hr 15 mins 19 secs, Kresstarjune Pathaw, and Jeevan Singh; 10 km run: Male category: Sanjay Singh – 34 mins 44 secs, Ravi Choudhury, and Akash Patwal; female category: Ruby Kashyap, Karma Idong Lanzes, and Shakuntala Devi; 5 km run: Male category: Lahudkar Rohan Gajanan, Gopal Singh Lamgariya, and Munna Yadav; female category: Moromi Das, Pema Dechen, and Thinlay Wangmu.

Special awards were presented to local talents in recognition of their promising performances and to encourage emerging runners from the region. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by senior dignitaries, including GOC-in-C 71 Division, 5 Mountain Division Chief of Staff, Corps Commander Gajraj Corps, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Leki Gombu, and MLA Namgey Tsering.

The Tawang Marathon, jointly organized by the Indian Army and the Arunachal Pradesh government, once again underscored the region’s enthusiasm for sports, adventure, and community participation. The event has become a symbol of Tawang’s unity and growing prominence on India’s national marathon circuit.
