Namkam Hornbill Trek Expedition 2025 promotes eco-tourism and cultural heritage

Itanagar, Oct 24: The Donyi Sanggo Culture Preservation Society (DSCPS), in collaboration with the village committees of Komsing, successfully organized the Namkam Hornbill Trek Expedition 2025 from October 20 to 23, with the aim of promoting eco-tourism, cultural preservation, and environmental awareness in the pristine hills of Namkam, under Komsing village in Siang district.

The four-day expedition, led by Tapun Taki, Managing Director of Namkam Hornbill Trek, along with team members Nekut Taloh, Tayam Tamuk, Nalo Taki, Tanyo Taki, Tajok Taki, Kalen Taki, and Kamin Gao of Arunachal Express, showcased the unexplored natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and traditional heritage of the Namkam region — home to the iconic Hornbill bird and the white-spotted squirrel.

The expedition saw enthusiastic participation from local youths, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts, who trekked through scenic and culturally significant locations, including Lingang Tuksing (White Spotted Stone), Esar Arung (Wind Hole), Raklong View Point, Namkam Hilltop, Ene Hieng (Natural Lake), Yumhing Yorbe (Hornbill Nest), Waterfall and Yumbung Hoyit (Animal Drinking Point), Lebung Stream and Hebung Lokne (Biggest Hollok Tree), Pangi Village, Dr Gregorson Murder Site (Historic Spot), Yembung–Siang Confluence, and War Memorial at Kekar Moniying.

These sites reflect the ecological richness, cultural depth, and historical legacy of the Siang region. The expedition not only provided an adventurous trekking experience but also served as a platform for promoting forest conservation, wildlife protection, and sustainable tourism practices.

Concluding the event, the organizers reaffirmed their commitment to make the Namkam Hornbill Trek Expedition an annual eco-tourism and cultural heritage initiative, dedicated to preserving local traditions and promoting the lesser-known natural wonders of Siang district on the global tourism map.
