RONO HILLS, Oct 24: The 4th University Football Championship 2025 wrapped up with a spirit that truly captured the energy and unity of Rajiv Gandhi University. For six days, the university’s football grounds here came alive with cheers, colorful performances and the unwavering camaraderie of young athletes aiming for glory.
More than just a competition, this year’s event felt like a celebration of community. With 30 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams hitting the field, the excitement was palpable. The opening ceremony brought together not only the players, but dignitaries like Home and Inter-State Border Affairs Minister Mama Natung, who called on the youth to set examples in discipline and leadership.
Local MLA Nabam Vivek praised the university for offering students a platform that goes far beyond textbooks.
The matches themselves delivered all the thrill and drama football fans could ask for. In the men’s finals, Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars Forum clinched a hard-fought victory, while the Department of Education showed their resilience as the defending champions. On the women’s side, the BPEd team’s grit earned them the championship spot, with the Department of Physical Education admirably defending their title.
The closing ceremony was graced by special guests who added to the sense of occasion. Jamru Ruja, president of the All Nyishi Youth Association, spoke passionately about how sports shape character and bring communities together. “You’re not just building teams, but learning the values that will guide you through life,” he said, as the audience nodded in agreement. Student activist Mato Bui reminded everyone that these moments of teamwork and friendly rivalry are what make university life truly unforgettable.
