ITANAGAR, Oct 27: The Leyu Welfare Society LWS) has appealed for a free and fair investigation into the Gomchu Yekar suicide case. It also demanded that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under DySP Kengo Dirchi be made permanent to look into the case.

“As per Gomchu Yekar’s parents, former DC Talo Potom and Gomchu have known each other since 2023,” said LWS general secretary Leyu Karsi Kardu while addressing reporters at the APC here today.

Elaborating on the turn of events, he further said that when Potom was ICR DC, he had constituted a five-member team including Gomchu Yekar for checking all kinds of illegal earth cutting, illegal dumping of debris on RoW, illegal constructions, etc, on May 19, 2025. “After few days on May 21, Gomchu Yekar was endorsed patrolling in-charge of Indira Gandhi Park as alcohol-free zone and no smoking zone and also entrusted with law and order check activities in IG Park area. He had also allowed penalty collection from the violators. And the collection was also submitted to the district administration. In the order, Gomchu Yekar is mentioned as sub Magistrate,” he added.

The LWS chief requested the Police Department to look properly into the fake magistrate case. “On what ground Gomchu was appointed as a sub Magistrate?”, he sought to know

While maintaining that after Gomchu was arrested on fake magistrate case, he was bailed out after two months in jail after which he went into depression and committed suicide, Kardu informed that the society will lodge an FIR on the fake magistrate case so that proper investigation can be conducted. “Why did the police not inquire Talo Potom, who is also an accused in the case?” he further added.
