ITANAGAR, Oct 28: As many as seven out of twenty (20) Wards of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) have been reserved for women (ST) candidates for the forthcoming Municipal Elections.
The reserved municipal seats are Ward Nos 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 18, and 20.
Moreover, the Office of the Mayor, IMC, has been reserved for a female candidate for the Municipal Elections 2025.
This development took place on Tuesday as the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Region, successfully conducted the draw of lots for women’s reservation in the IMC at the Pare Hall of DK State Convention Centre here.
Following the provision of Arunachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 2019, the draw of lots was conducted, in presence of Board Members, Corporators, political party representatives, and departmental officials.
Earlier, the programme commenced with a welcome address by Toko Babu, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Municipal Election Officer, ICR, who emphasized the significance of inclusivity and equitable representation in grassroots governance.
This was followed by a brief on the Municipal Election 2025 delivered by Khoda Lasa, Assistant Commissioner (Election).
The occasion was graced by local MLA Techi Kaso, and Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek, along with IMC Dy Mayor Biri Basang. They shared their views on promoting democratic participation and strengthening women’s leadership in urban local governance.
Meanwhile, Itanagar Addl Deputy Commissioner Rajib Chiduni has thanked all dignitaries, officials, and participants for their cooperation. The event ended successfully, promoting women’s empowerment in local governance. (DIPRO)
