Itanagar, Nov 6: Director of the Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies (CESHS), Tana Tage, represented Arunachal Pradesh at INDOROCK 2025 — the 10th Indian Rock Conference — held at Radisson Blu, Dwarka, New Delhi.
The event was organised by the Indian Society for Rock Mechanics and Tunnelling Technology (ISRMTT) in association with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) and the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
Tana presented the ongoing initiatives of CESHS, which is actively working across five key domains — Climatology, Green Energy, Cryosphere, Geoscience, and River Management. Since its inception in 2021, the Centre has been focusing on understanding and addressing the complex geoscientific aspects of the Arunachal Himalaya region, with an emphasis on sustainable development and resource conservation.
Speaking at the conference, the CESHS director highlighted that the Centre’s five focus areas align with the national vision of Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat, contributing towards sustainable scientific advancement in the eastern Himalayas.
During the event, he also had the honour of presenting the first edition of the Centre’s book titled “Geothermal Exploration in Arunachal Pradesh: A Case Study from Dirang” to Her Excellency May-Elin Steiner, the Norwegian Ambassador to India, in the presence of Dr Arnstein Aarset, Head of NGI, Norway.
Her Excellency Steiner expressed her keen interest in visiting Arunachal Pradesh in March 2026 to explore potential avenues for bilateral collaboration in geothermal energy and earth science research — marking a promising step toward strengthening Indo-Norwegian scientific cooperation.
The participation of CESHS at INDOROCK 2025 underscores Arunachal Pradesh’s growing role in advancing geoscientific research and sustainable development initiatives within the Himalayan region, officials said.
